You can part-exchange a car with outstanding finance by settling the lender's figure through the dealer, paying any negative equity difference. Cars not in your name require both parties to sign a contract and be present at delivery. For private plates, keep them by placing on retention with the DVLA before handover. Only one car can be part-exchanged per order.
Can I part-exchange my car if it has outstanding finance?
✅ Yes! We can settle it for you. Here’s how:
✔️ Request a settlement figure from your lender
✔️ Enter this when getting your part‑exchange quote
✔️ We’ll deduct it from your car’s valuation
✔️ Place your order
✔️ Upload your settlement letter via the link we'll email you
Negative equity? No problem! We can't pay the negative equity so if your settlement is higher than the car’s value, you’ll just need to pay the difference at checkout.
Can I part‑exchange a car that’s not in my name?
✅ Yes! You and the person whose name the car is in will need to:
✔️ Sign a contract confirming the part‑exchange (we'll email this to you)
✔️ Both be present for the delivery or collection
Get in touch and we can send you a copy of the contract.
Can I part-exchange my car with a private plate?
It depends on whether you want to keep it.
If you DON’T want to keep the plate - Nothing to do – we may just confirm details before handover.
If you DO want to keep the plate - You’ll need to put the plate on retention with the DVLA before handover. You can do this via the DVLA online service.
You’ll receive:
✔️ A V778 retention certificate
✔️ A new V5C (logbook) showing the original reg number
Before handover, make sure: Original number plates are fitted and you've received the updated V5C
Can I part‑exchange more than one car?
Right now, we can only accept one car per order as a part‑exchange.
